Bandits shoot, rob ‘Korner Kick’ proprietor
Masked bandits invaded the popular Korner Kick Restaurant at around 03:30 hrs yesterday, shooting proprietor Terry Gittens in the knee before fleeing with the night’s sales and jewellery.
A police release stated that Gittens was closing his shop, located at Bent and Lime Streets, when the two masked men approached him and held him at gunpoint. They then took away his gold chain and an undisclosed sum of cash during which he resisted and was shot to the left knee.
Kaieteur News was told that while Gittens was about to close his premises, a staffer observed the two men heading towards the restaurant.
The employer became suspicious and attempted to warn Gittens but by then the gunmen had struck. A source said that the employee was forced to flee after the men threatened to kill him. The source said that a civilian with a firearm exchanged gunfire with the fleeing men, during which two bullet holes pierced a nearby building.
After the robbers had retreated, Gittens was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was admitted.
