Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) hammered Housing Super Kings led by Minister Mohamed Irfan Ali by a massive 140 runs in the first game of a two best in three Twenty20 softball series played under lights at the National Park on Wednesday.
After winning the toss and electing to take first strike, MYO amassed a whopping 242-9 led by Saheed Gittens who fell 2 runs short of what would have been a well deserved century. Gittens was well supported in the runs feast by Zulficar Ali with 49.
Ashique Ally’s 5-38 and Reaze Abrahim’s 2-36 was not enough to stem the rapid flow of runs bowling for Housing Super Kings who were toppled for 102, extras topping all batters with 35.
The run chase started in dismally with 2 wickets falling in the very first over followed by Ravi Sarwan for a duck in the next.
Housing Super Kings were not allowed to recover from such a disastrous start and eventually surrendered for 102. Nayatanand Manbodh made 21 and Taslim Baksh 16.
Orchestrating their demise with the ball were Saheed Gittens who capped a fine all-round game with 2-11, Richard Latiff returned similar figures and Imran Ally 2-10 from 4 overs.
The Minister pulled his hamstring and was not able to bat after taking a brilliant catch to dismiss the inform Waslim Haslim in the second over of the MYO innings.
The next game in the series is schedule to be played at Utivlugt Community Centre Ground under lights later this month. Gittens was named man-of-the-match for his outstanding performances.
Meanwhile, Minister Ali acknowledged that his team was outplayed in all departments and assured MYO that his team will be back and more competitive in their next encounter.
