Undertakers prepare to remove the body, while detectives confirm their notes.
The body of a middle aged man was yesterday fished out of the Demerara River in the vicinity of the Guyana Police Force Maritime Headquarters, an apparent victim of drowning.
The man, whose was only named as ‘Fine Pants’ or ‘Terry’ of Alexander Village, was said to be an alcoholic who frequented the Meadow Bank Wharf.
There were no marks of violence on the body which was discovered by ranks from the Police Maritime Branch around 09:40 hours.
According to a source who works in the area, the man was last seen alive Tuesday afternoon and was heavily under the influence of alcohol.
It is believed that he fell overboard and drowned.
The police were summoned and are awaiting a post mortem examination to ascertain the cause of the man’s death.
