Dear Editor,
The coming of Oldendorff Carriers in Guyana seemed very good, as Guyanese would be provided with job opportunities. Of course, jobs were provided and everything seemed fine. Bauxite was being shipped out of the country as normal under the first set of expats who came with the company’s equipments, tugs and barges.
After these first set of expats left, all hell broke loose. The expats that came after acted as though they were on a mission to exploit the bauxite workers. The workers have no say, the present management is ruthless. Those of which include Reda Elnadoury, Zakaria El Dib and the heartless Viktor Olin. These persons issue dismissal letters without remorse and no circumstantial evidence.
Workers are being wrongfully dismissed daily, there is no job security and the salary scale is very questionable. It’s like workers are in a concentration camp. There are many more irregularities (too numerous to mention) that goes on at Oldendorff.
I trust as the American Union condemns the Government’s action in the bauxite workers saga with the Bauxite Company of Guyana Incorporated (BCGI), which is owned by the Russian Aluminum Firm, Rusal, there will be better procedures put in place to stop the rampant injustices that currently exist within Oldendorff.
