Corporal charged with Assault
Forty nine-year Rural Corporal Rishi Ram Samaroo called ‘Tractor’ was on Friday sent on his own recognizance by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo when he appeared before her at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court to answer to the charge of Assault, Causing Actual Bodily Harm.
Prosecutor, Inspector Satrohan Dayaram presenting the state’s case, stated that the man, who hails from 58 West Canefield is accused of assaulting Nandanee Rajkumar on Wednesday, May 5 at Kent Street, New Amsterdam. There was an altercation and Samaroo, it is alleged, assaulted the accused.
Appearing for the accused Attorney at law Gregory Gaskin told the court that the incident was an unfortunate one and that his client was only doing his job.
He said that his client is a well known individual in and around the community and is a ‘known community doer of good things’.
On the night in question the attorney said his client was parting a fight between two warring parties.
