Dear Sir,
I live in Bel Air Village. In November 2009, I received a bill from GPL which stated that we owed $47, 481. We pay our bills faithfully every month, and our electricity bill is nowhere in the vicinity of $47,000.
I therefore called GPL and was referred to Mr Alves. He gave me a listening ear and promised to send someone to read the meter again. To his credit, two days later someone came and read the meter.
When I contacted him again he admitted that there was an error and that the correction would be reflected in the next month’s bill. That was five months ago!!
My most recent bill issued March 25, 2010 was now far in excess of $47,000. I called GPL again and was once again assured, this time by a young lady, that the computer showed that I did not owe GPL and that there was indeed an error.
I asked the young lady what would happen if clipper-happy GPL employees turned up to disconnect my current and I could only show them a bill that said I owed more than $47,000.00.
She “comforted” me by saying “If they cut your light, they will have to put it back because the computer shows…” ( that was weeks ago!!).
Sir, just as I anticipated, GPL employees turned up at my home yesterday to disconnect my current. My daughter was at home and she explained to them that I had paid ALL my bills. Fortunately for me, they called GPL headquarters, and checks proved that I owe NOTHING!
So I was spared the inconvenience and embarrassment of having my current disconnected.
Could someone in authority kindly tell me what else I have to do before GPL does its work and removes the offending sum of money from my bill?
Claudia Heywood
