Fifteen year old Shawn Vaughn, of Lot 65 Inner Bagotsville, West Coast Demerara, was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital after he drowned in a trench a mere 30 feet away from home, on Saturday afternoon.

The third form student, who attended the Anna Catherina Community High School, was rushed to the hospital after villagers pulled out his lifeless body from the trench shortly after he went down.
Yesterday when this newspaper visited the young man’s home, a number of relatives had gathered.
His mother, Shondel Vaughn, said that she was not at home when the incident happened.
The woman said she was told by a relative that her son was riding his bicycle across a very dilapidated bridge carrying a bottle of water.
The distraught woman said that Vaughn was taking the water to relatives who live opposite to them. She suggested that because of the weight he probably tumbled into the trench.
She said villagers jumped in behind Vaughn but were unsuccessful in locating his body.
Vaughn’s body was located half of an hour later. One relative said that persons who pulled him out of the trench performed CPR.
