– hands over netball equipment
The National Milling Company of Guyana (NAMILCO) fulfilled a commitment made to the Guyana Netball Association (GNA) when it yesterday handed over four poles made to professional specifications and balls valued at over $250,000.
The gesture could not have come at a better time than on the heels of Guyana’s second place finish in the Developmental Group of the recently held Caribbean Under-16 Girls’ Championships in Barbados.
Speaking briefly at the simple handing over ceremony at the company’s Agricola-based factory, Marketing Consultant of NAMILCO, Affeeze Khan said that the company was fortunate to have the technical people to construct the poles.
“These poles were built to specification right here at NAMILCO. We wish that the GNA and other sport associations would also benefit from these skills and take advantage of the many nutritional products we have to offer,” Khan said.
He said that the company has a proud history of contributing to the development of local sports and yesterday’s gesture was merely an extension of that history. “Today is a very special day for the GNA,” he said before the GNA responded.
President of the netball association, Maxine Parris-Aaron indicated that the association is indeed appreciative of the gesture, which had absolutely no issues in procuring since the Milling Company immediately came forward after their request.
“I would like to thank Lavern Fraser-Thomas for inspiring us in this direction. We assure you that we will use this equipment to the best of our ability to produce the best results possible,” Aaron told a gathering of media workers and NAMILCO Staff.
The presentation should help boost the amount of portable poles the association has at its disposal for the preparation of teams.
