Dear Editor,
So many letters have appeared in these columns in support of a set of individuals to become president of Guyana that I have nearly lost count! Don’t people have better things to do with their time than to write such crap on a daily basis?
You have one writer supporting this person and then the next day another supporting someone else. While everyone has the right to their ideas and free speech in these letter columns, we have far more important matters to deal with at the moment. Elections are more than a year away. Can these writers for once focus on the present and put forth worthwhile plans to help make our country better?
It does not take rocket science to know who the next presidential candidate of the ruling party would be. A similar picture has been painted with respect to the PNC as well. So why are these persons wasting their time, and in some cases, making a lot of mischief in these columns by writing letters supporting such and such candidate for presidency? Is political power all that we value in this country? Why be bothered about who is running for president of Guyana? Running a nation is not only a president’s job but each and every one of us is a stakeholder in the governing of a country.
Many of us get too excited during the ‘crazy season’ or election season. We cannot see further than our noses, as they say. Stop wasting space in these columns, please. Write about crime; the crazy society which we have become; moral issues, religious issues and proffer relevant ideas and views to the public. These are the things Guyanese are faced presently with. And stop your politicking. Not only is it too early for this nonsense but it also demonstrates a show of how immature some people can be in this game of politics.
We don’t want to know who you are supporting for presidential candidates. Keep them to yourselves. I’m so sick of them already. Let’s discuss more serious issues!
