Despite the absence of West Demerara and East Berbice, this year’s LinWest Athletic Championships produced some exciting finishes on Sunday, at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
At the end of the day’s proceedings, hosts Linden was adjudged the overall winners after they amassed 321 points to relegate into second place East Coast on 293, West Berbice 149 and East Bank 128.
Several categories saw athletes being declared joint winners and among them were Boys Under-20 where sprint champion and East Coast representative Chavez Ajeday, who won the 100 and 200 metres races, sharing the title with Linden’s Ryan Crandon, who carted off the Discus and Shot Put events.
On the distaff side, West Berbice Nikita Joseph, winner of the 100 and 200 metres races, had to share the spotlight with Linden’s Shenika Chapman, who grabbed the 1500 and 3,000 metres races.
The Girls U-18 division also had joint winners in East Bank Demerara’s Lisa Bowman, who won the Javelin and Discus events and Linden’s Kendika Bacchus, the 800 and 1500 metres champion.
The Boys U-18 champion was Malcolm Walcott, winner of the 800 and 1500 metres races.
Meanwhile, the Games Committee along with President of the Guyana Sports Association of New York is scheduled to meet on Thursday to review the Games, starting at 14:00 hrs at Olympic House.
According to a source close to the Committee, the three Georgetown Districts are being asked to send respective representatives to the Meeting.
