A nurse who went to great lengths to forge a document from the Ministry of Health in a bid to leave the country, was yesterday placed on $140,000 bail when she appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
The woman, 24-year-old Gevita David, of 1827 Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, allegedly conspired with person or persons unknown to forged a letter from the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Health stating that she had permission to leave the country between March 4 and March 13.
It was further alleged that on March 13, she uttered the letter to a police officer knowing it to be fraud.
She pleaded not guilty to both charges and was represented by attorney at law Paul Fung-a-Fat.
The lawyer stated that the documents were not prepared by her, further adding that she had an unblemished record.
He said that the police were only duplicating the matter. Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford did not oppose bail. Bail was granted in the sum of $140,000 she is expected to make another court appearance on April 22. The matter was transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
