Former rookie champion Ryon Gayadin believes that even though his campaign in Group 3 will commence on Sunday, his chances are as good as any of the other drivers.
The young Gayadin will be competing against his brother Gavin, current champion Ryan Rahaman, Ravi Singh, Kamal Seebarran and Kem Lall among others, all battle hardened drivers in the division, but he is still optimistic that he could be in the reckoning.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport yesterday at Mark Vieira’s garage where his mechanics were putting in the final touches on his newly-acquired Mazda RX7 machine which was previously owned by Vieira, Gayadin said that his move to the higher category is all part of human nature where we are constantly challenging ourselves to strive for higher achievements.
“I know it is not going to be easy, those guys are very experienced, but having said that I made this investment not to merely compete, but to challenge the more seasoned drivers in the division,” Gayadin commented.
He revealed that some earlier hiccups during preparations should not prevent them from being on the track on Sunday and throwing down the gauntlet to his rivals. He, however, did admit that the car is a new one for him and it will take some time for him to get accustomed to it. “I know that the races will be competitive, but everybody facing the starter’s flag have an equal chance so I’m urging fans to come to the South Dakota Circuit and witness what is expected to be a thrilling day of races.”
The bespectacled driver said that the word emanating among the motor racing fraternity is that many of the competitors are pulling out all the stops to be very competitive and it shows that the sport continues to grow at an alarming rate.
“I would say that preparations for the season opening Meet have been fantastic,” Gayadin mentioned.
