Mound & Party Stand sold out for opening day

Head of the Guyana ICC T/20 Secretariat Sabrina Panday yesterday announced that ticket sales for the Guyana leg of the 2010 T/20 World Cup is ‘going very well’ and disclosed that all tickets for the Mound and Party stand have already been sold out for the opening day on April 30.
Matches in the first ever such event to be hosted by the West Indies will also be played in St Lucia where the semis in both the Women’s and Men’s tournament will be held, Barbados who will host both Male and Female finals and St Kitts where the Women’s tournament will be contested.
With just over a month to the start of the competition, Panday revealed that overall 80% of tickets for the first day (April 30), 75% of tickets for the 2nd day (May 3) and 50% of the tickets for the 3rd day (May 4) have already been sold.
The 45-minute opening celebration from 11:30hrs at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence will officially bowl off the competition before the first match begins at 13:00hrs at the same venue between Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
Fans who buy US$5 tickets for the mound, US10 tickets for the stands or US$65 for the party stand will see two matches each day. Fans on the opening day will also be admitted for the opening celebration.
The first ever International match under lights in Guyana will be the 2nd game on the opening day between home team West Indies and ICC qualifier Ireland and that game starts at 17:00hrs.
On May 3, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe face-off at Providence from 09:30hrs before West Indies play England from 13:30hrs while New Zealand battle Zimbabwe from 09:30hrs and England take on Ireland from 13:30hrs on May 4.
Panday said all Corporate Boxes have been sold out for all three days of cricket in Guyana adding that tickets for the Red and Green stands are almost sold out for the three days.
One thousand free tickets for children under 16 years of age were given to each host venue and Panday informed that all of these tickets have already been given away.
Tickets can be bought at the Guyana Cricket Board office at Bourda between 09:00hrs to 16:00hrs from Monday to Friday while if tickets are still available a ticket office will be opened at the Stadium from next month.
Guyana leads the ticket sales with Barbados and St Lucia following while fans will be admitted free of charge for the Women’s matches in St Kitts on a first come first served basis.
The IPL matches on local TV stations NCN and NTN is expected to raise the level of interest for the 2010 T/20 World Cup and fans are being encouraged to secure their tickets early before they are sold out. Dancehall artist Mr Vegas and Soca Diva Fay-Ann Lyons will perform the Official Theme song of the event –Bring It- live during the opening celebrations on April 30. With West Indies playing on two of three days of action in Guyana, tickets are expected to be sold out before the what is anticipated to be an exhilarating tournament of not-stop shots and energetic fielding and bowling along with plenty of beyond the boundary entertainment, commences in just over a month’s time.
