Police were up to late yesterday still to arrest the Mahaica Pastor under investigation for allegedly sexually abusing his 17-year-old stepdaughter.
The man had told Kaieteur News that he would have gone in to the police with his attorney but has still not done so.
A source close to the Pastor said that he has been advised not to visit the police out of concern that he would be detained over the long weekend.
However, the source assured that he will turn himself in this week.
In Saturday’s edition, Kaieteur News had mistakenly identified the accused as a member of the Unity Church.
This newspaper regrets the error.
The accused man, his wife and close relatives say he is being framed by the girl and a female relative.
One source described the woman as an alcoholic and drug user who is apparently trying to extort the Pastor.
They also alleged that the teen had made similar allegations two years ago, but then admitted to the police that the relative had told her to frame her stepfather.
On Tuesday, the stepdaughter told investigators that the Pastor had been sexually molesting her since she was eight years old.
She also alleged that the last time the sexual assault occurred was on Monday last.
She has since left her parents’ home and has not returned.
