Dear Editor,
I read in amazement at the move by the Home Affairs Ministry against Kaieteur News, when it signaled that it was investigating whether to charge Kaieteur News for collecting monies for Haiti.
In the Kaieteur News article it said that the newspaper did not apply 30 days before starting its fund.
I find this position by the Home Affairs Ministry through the Guyana Police Force to be most amusing, and thought to myself if the teachers and students at the many a schools across the country that initiated similar moves should be scared that the police will now charge them too.
Students and teachers beware the police may soon come after you and your crime will be that of helping our brothers and sisters in Haiti.
I remember that some time ago Kaieteur New had a front page comment which stated that there were powerful forces seeking to bring that paper down and can’t help but thinking that the Government true agenda against the Kaieteur News has raised its ugly head.
I can’t help but place the most recent attack in the context of the statement the President made at the Private Sector Commission dinner, where he subtly told them not to advertise with that newspaper.
It is also plain as day to see the reduction of Government advertisements in the Kaieteur News, despite the fact that it no doubt has the largest circulation in Guyana. (Name and Address withheld)
