It was consumers’ complaints of an unusual mouldy, musty or mildew-like odour of a Tylenol brand product that has warranted its recall. In a release, the Government Analyst Food and Drug Department said that it has been in receipt of information that McNeil Consumer Healthcare has issued a voluntary recall of all available lots of Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplet 100 count bottles with the distinctive red EZ-OPEN CAP.
According to the release, the product is being recalled as it is associated with nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea. The odour it added is caused by the presence of a chemical two, four and six Tribromoanisole believed to be the agent used to treat wooden pallets that transport and store packaging materials.
It was further noted that the health effects of the compound have not been well studied and to date all reports were temporary and non-serious.
Nonetheless consumers, importers, wholesalers, retailers, doctors and pharmacies that have the product in their possession are asked to cease using/selling and dispensing the product and return same to the Food and Drug Department.
The department, the release stated, can be contacted on telephone numbers 222-8857, 222-8859 or send fax to 222-8856.
