The Special Events Committee of the Berbice Cricket Board closed off their 2009 Christmas Outreach Programme with a Christmas Party for 50 less fortunate children at the Board’s office on December 27. The Committee also handed out twelve food hampers to senior citizens who were selected by First Division clubs across the county.

The beneficiaries were reminded that the focus of the BCBSEC is to be an agent of social change in the County in an effort to make positive impact on the lives of youths, the elderly and less fortunate. The children received toys, a bag of goodies and educational materials among other items.
Also benefiting from the benevolence of the BCB over the last two weeks under the Christmas Outreach programme was the Children of Promise Eden Orphanage.
The Board also handed out new born kits to mothers at the New Amsterdam Hospital on Christmas Day while inmates in the Children’s Ward received toys.
SEC Chairman Hilbert Foster reported that the programme will be expanded this year with particular emphasis being placed on the less fortunate communities. In excess of One Million dollars would be invested in the programme.
