Sixteen graduate from GOA Sports Administrators’ Course

– Mingo urges them to effect change within Associations

Sixteen individuals were added to the growing list of qualified Sports Administrators last weekend after completing the syllabus of the Olympic Solidarity-sponsored Course under the aegis of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA).
The Course, which was held at the Linmine Constabulary Recreation Club in Linden, was geared at addressing issues such as the Olympic Movement, Olympic Programmes, Sport and the Environment and HIV/AIDS and Sports.
Secondarily, the 11th Annual Sports Administrators’ Course dealt with Budgeting and the Management of Money, Problems facing Sports in Developing Countries, Values and the Ethics of Sports and Sports and the Law.
Nineteen of the 22 registrant participated and 16 successfully completed the course. They were required to undertake “Group Work” assignments with a final examination also one of the prerequisites for completing syllabus.
Guyana Amateur Swimming Association’s, Nicholas Fraser was awarded best graduating student with Athletics Association of Guyana’s, Christine Sampson and the Bodybuilding Federation’s, Fiona Harris in runner-up positions.
Chairman of Region 10, Mortimer Mingo delivered the “Charge” at the closing ceremony to the successful participants, advising them to return to their respective Associations and be catalysts of change with their new knowledge.
He reportedly thanked the GOA for making an effort to bring the course to the Region 10 following a similar one in New Amsterdam in 2007. The Course Directors were Claude Blackmore, Garfield Wiltshire and Charles Corbin.
