One-year-old Jonathan Bourne, a survivor of the Mahaica smash up, still remains in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital. A CT scan shows that the toddler sustained massive head injuries. Fluids were still being drained from the child’s body.
His mother, Clavia Williams, is also a patient of the same institution. She sustained injuries to her foot and hands.
Another survivor, Doreen Dutchin, is listed as critical. She is a patient in the Intensive Care Unit. She sustained head injuries and had to do a CT scan to ascertain the severity of her injuries.
Wayne Holder and Marvin Ramphal are still patients in the male surgical ward. The other injured victims who were involved in the accident were identified as David Budhran, Dhandar Drepaul, 23; Vanetta Usher, 29; and Anille Arthur, 17.
The death toll in Saturday’s smash-up at Mahaica climbed to six after accident victim Joshua Johnson passed away late Saturday night. Those that died were minibus driver, Gary McAlmont, called ‘Percy’, Troy Douglas, Cynique Fraser, Patrina Munroe; Mary Blair, 52.
Police Commissioner Henry Greene said that the truck driver was drunk, while some survivors accused the minibus driver of excessive speeding. But reports indicate that none of the passengers, including two teachers, admonished the driver for endangering their lives.
