Millington cops MVP & highest goal scorer trophies, Bess is best goalie
Champions of the 6th Mackeson/English/Kashif & Shanghai Knock-Out Futsal tournament, BK International Western Tigers made a clean sweep of the individual awards. This was announced at the presentation ceremony which took place in the Board Room of sponsors, Ansa McAl Trading, yesterday.
Lethal striker Devon Millington ended as the top goal scorer with a tally of 14 goals and also won the Most Valuable Player accolade.
His teammate and custodian Travis Bess was named the tournament’s best goalkeeper. Western Tigers walked away with the top prize of $500,000, Alpha United received the $250,000 second place cheque while Flamingo took home $150,000 for defeating Uprising in the 3rd place game; the losers pocketed $100,000.
Ansa McAl’s Managing Director Ms. Beverly Harper in remarks to the representatives of the teams said her company was very proud to be associated with the tournament while complimenting the teams for making it a success.
“We are glad to be on board, we have been with you for six years and I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t be there again. We will make it bigger and better and even more spectacular than what it is now.”
Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Kashif Muhammad expressed gratitude to the sponsors and all who contributed towards the tournament while highlighting a few challenges they encountered in hosting.
“We think that if we had the normal days that we are accustomed to, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, we would have a better flow and momentum during the tournament.
We did not get those days due to other activities at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. But be that as it may, we are extremely grateful for the spectators who came out and supported the tournament, the press and most important, Ansa McAl.”
