Strongest men in the land set to collide October 25
– at GAPLF Senior Championships, International officials to visit

The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall will be transformed into an international arena come October 25, 2009 when the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) brings off their annual senior championships.
According to President of GAPLF Peter Green, this year’s competition will also serve as a dress rehearsal for the Caribbean Championships which Guyana will host next April. General Secretary of the North American Powerlifting Federation (NAPF) along with an International Powerlifting Federation Referee will be in Guyana for Senior’s.
Apart from inspecting the proposed venue and available Hotels which will be accommodating the foreign teams next year, the officials will also run off a Referees course. Athletes will be aiming to impress since the competition will also serve as qualifying for next year’s Regional Competition.
The registration format for the local competition will be done as is required by the NAPF in an effort to get the local lifers familiar. Forms can be uplifted from any member of the GAPLF or from Basic Beauty Salon, North Road.
The closing date for the return of registration forms is October 20. Failing to adhere to this date will result in athletes being unable to compete at seniors and the regional competition. Weigh in time on competition day will commence at 07:30hrs and conclude promptly at 09:00hrs.
Athlete’s equipment will be checked according to IPF standards and no exceptions will be made.
All the big names in the sport locally from Berbice, Linden and the City are expected to collide at what is anticipated to be the biggest Powerlifting Championships ever. The likes of, ‘Big’ John Edwards, Mervin ‘Spongy’ Moses, Randolph Morgan and Theodore Henry among others will all be in action.
