Dear Editor,
It is with pleasure that I have observed your newspaper enlightening the Guyanese public about the supposed blatant misappropriation of tax pavers’ funds for Government projects.
However, there is one project that I would like to know the status of. A few years ago many column inches were dedicated to the rehabilitation of the Georgetown Seawall from Pegasus to Celina’s. Millions of dollars were spent illuminating the area of Phase I, of, I believe, three phases
However, for the past three to four years, with the exception of two lights between Celina’s and the drainage pipe that has been placed across the Seawall road, there are no other working lights.
The remaining phases of this project, if my memory serves correct, were to place benches and tables and level the area to make a promenade for recreational purposes. On Sundays, the Bandstand area is still a hub of activity for family oriented attractions, but as soon as the place starts to get dark, as there are no lights other than those from the refreshment carts, everyone is forced to vacate the area.
Can we please try to get this project up and running again, so that we will be one step closer to returning Georgetown to the Garden City? Pam Fitzpatrick
