Cyclist Rudradeo cremated following solemn service
Colleagues turn out in numbers to bid farewell
The final ride!!! Cyclist’s young and old, leading the hearse with the remains of the late Vivekanand Rudradeo from his residence to the Good Hope Crematorium yesterday.
His aspirations was to become one of Guyana’s leading cyclists and to excel educationally also, but these ambitious plans were never to be for 12 year-old Vivekanand Rudradeo whose life was cut short by one of the many errant drives who traverse our roads on a daily basis.
A former member of the Kaieteur Cycle Club and student of Graham’s Hall Primary, Rudradeo succumbed to injuries he sustained on August 29 when he and his father were involved in an accident with a car while training on his cycle, the younger Rudradeo suffering the worst.
In moving tributes at his funeral service which was held at the family’s Lot 1 Ogle Airstrip Road yesterday, family, friends, villagers, cyclists and dozens of his fellow students from Graham’s Hall turned out to show their final respects.
Pandit Chaman recalled that it was only three weeks ago that he was invited to officiate at the 12th birthday celebrations for young Rudradeo as he remembered how jovial and cheerful the lad was as he danced his way from one section of the house to another.
Pastor Balgobin Ragnauth, a close friend of the family in his tribute noted that the death of a loved one stops your world but encouraged the gathering which included executive members of the Guyana Cycling Federation, Minister of Local Government Harripersaud Nokta (who represented the community) and Presidential Advisor Navin Chandrapal among others, to trust the almighty for strength to face the many challenges of this world.
Acting President of the Guyana Cycling Federation Cheryl Sampson was very emotional her short tribute on behalf of the Federation while National Coach Hassan Mohamed also remembered the young rider who he said was attending the Annual Teach Them Young Coaching Clinics for the past four years.
Rudradeo rode his last competitive race on August 8 which he won and it was the biggest win of his career. The last day he attended this year’s (33rd) Teach them Young clinic was August 28. He was so much in love with riding that it was on his cycle that he met his demise.
His remains were cremated at the Good Hope Crematorium yesterday afternoon.
