Dear Editor,
I would like to bring this unfair situation to the Minister of Education, other educators and the public.
For several years many of the pupils of Cornelia Ida Primary School are being transferred to Leonora Primary School even though there is no change of address. This often occurs when most of the pupils have completed Grade Five.
Unfortunately, this situation occurred again recently when a Grade Six pupil was granted a transfer to Leonora Primary School although she still resides at Hague. This transfer was issued by the Regional Education Officer, while the newly appointed head teacher accepted this child.
Surprisingly, this head teacher was attached to Cornelia Ida primary school up until 31st August 2009 and is aware of this problem, but, is now supporting this illegal action.
Is it fair for the teachers of Cornelia Ida primary school to work hard with these children only to have them transferred to Leonora Primary? This is evident at the national grade six examinations when most of the pupils that excelled at Leonora Primary are out of its catchment area.
A thorough investigation into this matter should be done since it is indeed frustrating to the teachers of Cornelia Ida Primary. I hope the Minister of Education would conduct an immediate investigation into this matter so that this practice would cease forthwith. Krishna Boodhoo
