Albion, RHTWSB already in semis with one game to play
Albion and Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) are already in the semi-finals of the Berbice zone National Neal & Massy 40-overs 1st division cricket competition despite still having one preliminary round match in hand.
Even if they both lose their final game this weekend, only Port Mourant (PM), who have 12 points from their full quota of 5 matches, will equal them on the points table. However, both teams defeated Port Mourant in their head-to-head clash.
In the latest round of matches last Sunday, Albion got a walk over from Scotsburg United while RHTWSB beat PM to take the joint lead in zone ‘B’.
Bermine remained at the top of zone ‘A’ with 20 points with a win against National defending champions Young Warriors in their final preliminary round game while unbeaten West Berbice (16 points) and Young Warriors (12 points) are the other teams battling for the 2 semi-final spots from zone ‘A’. They both have 2 matches in hand including one against each other.
The Berbcie Cricket Board (BCB) informed that Scotsburg United have been suspended from the competition and that Port Mourant have been awarded full (4) points from their final match scheduled for this weekend.
According to the BCB, after no ground was available in their area to host their game against Albion on Sunday, the match was switched to Albion and Scotsburg United failed to show up.
“They have been suspended from this competition and the BCB will meet with the club and players before the commencement of the next competition,” Chairman of the competitions Committee Carl Moore informed.
On the field, host RHTWSB bowled out PM for 159 despite 41 from former West Indies youth batsman Roopnarine Ramgobin and 20 from Rajeev Ivan. Eon Hooper (2-17), Assad Fudadin (2-29) and Terrence Madramootoo (2-25) bowled well for RHTWSB who reached 160-4 in 27. 4 overs with national player Esuan Crandon hitting 7 fours and 4 sixes in his 71 batting at number 3 in the order.
He added 122 for the 3rd wicket with Renrick Batson who hit 5 fours and 3 sixes in 60. Ivan took 2-46 from 5. 4 overs in a losing cause.
At Edinburgh, the home team beat Rose Hall Canje by 5 wickets after making 207-5 replying to Canje’s 206 all out in 40 overs. Sasenarine Sookdeo hit 6 fours in 51 while Sanjay Khan (35) and Vishal Mohabir (20) offered token support for Canje as Mark Sampson captured 5-41 and Shafiek Khan had 2-45.
Edinburgh’s run chase was led by Raid Ali who stroked 8 fours in 64 while Robin Seebarran made 50 with 4 fours and Khan scored 33. Ali and Seebarran put
