Dear Editor,
I reply to Randy Persaud’s letter published in 29/08/09 edition of Kaieteur News.
Mr. Persaud’s poorly researched response is captioned, “Norman Browne: An AFC Embarrassment”.
It is a bungled response which qualifies my previous observation that the Peoples Progressive Party has a track record of soliciting mediocre opportunistic party hangers-on to spin for its government when it is in serious crisis.
I also stated that Mr. Persaud appeared to have stayed away from Guyana and its politics for too long. His reply to me verifies what I had already suspected.
What I will retract is my reference to him as a Spin Doctor. He should not even be regarded as someone who could be seen as a quack spinner.
One of the best operational advantages of a Spin Doctor is to have the ears of the leader, (figurative). Former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair made the king of spin, Alistair Campbell appeared to be his confidante, trusted his judgment and defended him at all times.
This did not go down well with the ministers in Blair’s government. Many of them appeared to dislike Campbell for his enviable unofficial position. Campbell did his part in being sharp, slick and convincing.
He researched the smallest and insignificant issues and spun them with finesse. He did his homework. He could not be seen to be an embarrassment to his leader.
Simply, if Mr. Persaud did his research, or just ask his President, he would have known that Norman Browne is not someone writing under a pen name.
But unlike Campbell, Persaud gets a busy signal from his boss’s phone and ‘No Disturb’ sign on the door.
I therefore conclude that he is an opportunist eager to please his friend, who it appears has no time to engage him on public relations matters or on any matters at all.
In turn Persaud couldn’t be bothered about doing his chores right.
Let me help him. I am not a member of the Alliance for Change, much-less a Campbell to Trotman or Ramjattan.
These men are fine leaders with legal minds and the ability to communicate on any front. These qualities are lacking in your leader. The best you can do is not to make him appear to be so.
Why should any one take seriously your frail and unsuccessful attempt to cast doubt on a new and vibrant party that offers hope to all Guyanese regardless of race, colour or creed?
Two leaders who courageously broke away from PPP and PNC to form an alliance that is representative of new hope.
An alliance that will break forever the racial divide that permeates our society, that stagnates progress and promotes discord.
The world is bowing to positive change. Unshackling from old habits that are counterproductive to moving forward and leaving behind unwanted burdens. Will Guyana follow on this path?
Breathe, Randy, do not be afraid of the cool and comforting wind of change blowing your way. Breathe, it helps you to relax and concentrate and when you open your eyes your vision becomes clearer.
Had you done that you would have known the peoples’ newspaper carried your “Pickle”.
The other points you touched on in your article will not be perused. Why should they, you were incapable of verifying a name. You could not care to check to see if your letter was published and accused the same newspaper of not publishing it.
The newspaper published both, the last with an editor’s note. Tony Blair would have been fuming with Campbell. You will still get the engagement tone from your boss’s mobile phone.
When you visit this time you will still see the ‘no disturb sign’. Spin around and leave for good because it will be the only spin that will make any sense.
Norman Browne
