Guyana and Police Headquarters (HQ) have jumped ahead in their respective competition after the completion of Day 1 of the annual Guyana Police Force Track and Field contests at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary yesterday.
Guyana amassed 148 points after the end of eight finals in the international championship with Trinidad and Tobago lagging way behind on 38 points and Barbados on 31 points in the event that continues today at the same venue.
These two initial days are reserved for most of the trials and heats in the competition with an occasional final. The Grand Finale of the annual marquee event is set for Friday where most of the finals will be hosted.
Headquarters had gathered 117 points yesterday after 10 finals were done in that category as ‘A’ Division trials on 66 points, ‘B’ Division on 34 points and Country Division in the rear view on 20 points in the Divisional competition.
The event continues with 15 finals in the Divisional group and 11 in the international category today. The marquee events will be the 200m female final, 800m final and 5000m final in the Divisional competition.
The other finals will follow a grand Opening Ceremony on Friday where Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee is expected to deliver the feature address.
