Dear Editor,
I believe I am a neutral Guyanese without any political affiliation or allegiance to any group, as such, I would like to comment on the recent broadcast of the Justice for All programme on Thursday, August 20, 2009.
It is my firm belief that the comments made by the host Mr. C. N. Sharma was done without any careful thought as the Minister of Agriculture is one of the many hardworking Minister of Government.
His numerous out of office engagements/visits and interactions with farmers are evident and testimony to his commitment to farmers and the development of agriculture.
People in this country just say what and when they want. Sometimes I feel we have too much freedom of speech. Hence, some do not pay heed to what to say and do not consider the consequences it has for us as a developing country. Everyone wants to show that they are clean and doing a service to the people of this nation, but in fact they are downright selfish.
Whilst each one of us wants to feel a sense of responsibility to the wider public, we must be careful what and how we say things which can have serious repercussions.
Responsible journalism is critical for any developing country and I therefore urge all concerned to be cautious in their actions, as they owe it to the people of Guyana and foremost themselves as a patriotic citizen of our beloved country. Danny Smith
