Trinidad and Tobago, on the back of a sterling half century from Amanda Samaroo continued their journey to championship honours when play in the Regional Women’s 50-overs Cricket Competition continued at the Bourda Ground yesterday morning.
Samaroo, who was later named player of the match, claimed one wicket for 18 runs after her 50 to lead Trinidad and Tobago to a comprehensive victory over St Vincent and the Grenadines Samaroo.
St Vincent called correctly and invited the Trinidadians to take first strike. The lasses from the Land of the Humming Bird duly posted a challenging total of 208-8 when their overs ran out. In response, St Vincent, despite an unbeaten half century from Clea Hoyte (62), could only muster 150-5 at the end of their allotted 50 overs. Hoyte later returned to take 2-40 from 5 overs.
The win has taken the Trinidadians to 12 points following victories over host Guyana and Grenada while St Vincent, with earlier victories over Guyana and Grenada remain on 8 points.
Britney Cooper supported Samaroo with an entertaining 46 that included 2 boundaries and a further contribution with the ball taking 2 for 28. Samaroo eventually attempted a pull shot but only succeeded in placing the ball into the waiting hands of Camille Garrick. The score was then 146-4.
Kirbinia Alexander then fell for 11 at 176-5 before Murrisa Aguilara hoisted Jack through long on for a magnificent 6. It was to be her last hoorah as she perished shortly afterwards, stumped off the bowling of Claire Hoyte (195-6).
Three runs later, Anisa Mohammed attempted a timid defensive stroke but was deceived by a ball from Hoyte that kept very low, shattering her stumps in the process (198-7). Alisa Mohammed attempted to procure as many possible runs from the final over but was stumped off the last ball of the innings leaving the St Vincentians with a challenging total of 209 for victory.
St Vincent struggled despite Hoyte’s innings as the grils from T&T eventually had thing their way. (Michael Benjamin)
