The drama between CLICO (Guyana) and the Kissoon Group of Companies continued yesterday after the High Court ordered that three vehicles that were seized from CLICO be returned to the beleaguered insurance firm.
Two of the impounded vehicles were removed by crash truck from the High Court compound at around 11:00 hrs yesterday, and taken back to CLICO’s Camp Street location.
On Thursday, acting on a High Court order, a court marshal had descended on CLICO’s Camp Street compound and had the vehicles hauled away.
This was done despite protestations by the company’s Assistant Manager, Geeta Singh-Knight, who had attempted to prevent the seizure by ordering security personnel to shut the gates. The marshal had threatened to have Singh-Knight arrested for preventing the female marshal from executing her lawful duty.
The registration information on a fourth vehicle, which was reportedly in Mrs. Singh-Knight’s possession, could not be found.
That vehicle was therefore left in the CLICO compound.
The High Court had agreed to an order to levy on the vehicles since September 2008, after CLICO failed to honour some $9M in insurance claims to the Kissoon Group after a fire razed the Park Hotel in Main Street in 2001.
Yesterday, officials of the Kissoon Group of Companies declined comment and referred all queries to Senior Counsel Rex McKay, who is representing the company.
However, Kaieteur News was unable to reach Mr. Mc Kay.
