The Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) will launch its 2009/10 season tomorrow with a ceremony and march past at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground.
The event, which gets underway at 16:00hrs, will also see the launching and kickoff of the Stag B-League, which has been sponsored by Ansa Mc al Trading to the tune of $500, 000.
Representatives of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and Ansa Mc al will be there to give remarks.
On field action will see HI-Stars tackle Peacemakers and Netrockers battling Amelia’s Ward United. The two latter teams are battling to save relegation to second division, while the second division teams would be going all out to achieve first division status. The teams participating in the B League are Coomacka United, Peacemakers, Netrockers, Amelia’s Ward United, Hi-Stars, Flamingo and Vasco. The first, second and third placed teams will receive $50, 000, $30, 000 and $20, 000 respectively. Games will be contested at the MSC Ground and the Bayrock Ground, Wismar. Rusal, who were heavy favourites to win the championship have pulled out since the company is unwilling to finance the team’s travelling expenses.
Other events on the UDFA Calendar for 2009 include the Linden Invitational tournament, scheduled to get underway on July 29, 2009 and the UDFA Senior League, which would follow the B League.
Under-13, 15 and 17 competitions are slated to kick off in the next two weeks.
