Troy De Mattos, 41, of Shirley Field-Ridley Square, West Ruimveldt, who was shot on Saturday is said to be in a critical but stable condition.
Up to press time yesterday, De Mattos was still being treated for a bullet wound to his chest.
This newspaper was told that the bullet which was lodged in the man’s chest has not yet been removed. De Mattos told this newspaper that he is still suffering from severe chest pains.
On Saturday last, De Mattos survived a brazen armed robbery, but lost his gold chain while plying his trade as a vendor in the vicinity of the Sophia Bus Park.
According to one eyewitness, she saw two men scuffling, but she only realized the gravity of the situation when one of the men brandished a ‘shine’ gun and then she heard two gunshots ring off.
The attacker subsequently fled the scene heading south along High Street.
Another eyewitness told this newspaper that the attacker who is described as a slim, dark- skinned person, approached De Mattos and grabbed at his chain.
De Mattos retaliated but the attacker drew his weapon and frantically fired two gunshots, one of which hit De Mattos in the left side of his chest.
According to the eyewitness, the attacker found the time to pick up the shells from the ground before he made good his escape.
Meanwhile, Peter’s Hall businessman Deewan Roshan still remains in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The shop owner was shot in the abdomen by armed gunmen who invaded the grocery store which Roshan operated.
According to a police source, the businessman is showing signs that he may have known the men who robbed and shot him.
The source further told Kaieteur News that they have suspected that the suspects belong to a gang which has committed similar robberies in the area, further noting that the gang apparently operates out of a neighbouring village.
The 48-year- old businessman was shot in the abdomen two Saturdays ago, after armed bandits invaded his Clarke Street, Peter’s Hall home; they also fled with an undisclosed sum of money.
Roshan reportedly had his licensed firearm at the time of the robbery, but was unable to get off a single shot.
According to reports, a single gunshot was heard at Roshan’s store, and three men in dark clothing were seen running from the premises.
