Dear Editor,
In reaction to the move by the Barbadian government to crack down on undocumented workers, which includes many Guyanese, President Bharrat Jagdeo in a press briefing last month indicated that he can be of no help to the Guyanese.
He however, stated that he will be seeking to engage the Opposition to discuss the matter and, possibly, find a solution. It would be important to know if this meeting took place and what were the outcomes.
Secondly, is the CARICOM Secretariat involved in facilitating any kind of meetings between the Bajan government and the governments of those CARICOM states, whose nationals will be affected by the new Bajan immigration policy?
Finally, can the Guyana government advise the nation on how its immigration, or foreign policy will protect against, possible, influx of illegal immigrants coming through, the recently constructed, bridge to Brazil?
I empathise with those Guyanese, and other Caribbean nationals, affected by the Barbados June 1 deadline.
