The ‘old’ Providence Cricket Club ground on the East Bank of Demerara should come alive tomorrow, when Nandy Park and North Soesdyke face-off in the Goodwood 40-over second division East Bank Cricket Association cricket final.
The match is scheduled to commence at 11:00hrs and the teams will be vying for the $50,000 first prize and trophy. The runner-up will collect a trophy and $25, 000, while the Man-of-the-Match receives $10,000 and a trophy.
North Soesdyke whipped Combined United in their semi-final clash and with former Guyana Under-19 pacer Colin Benjamin-Gray (who has migrated from Berbice to Soesdyke) in their line-up, a keen contest is anticipated.
The pitch should be a placid one, but the outfield is expected to be fast and if the burly 30-year-old Rohan Sarjoo, who played a solitary First-Class game for Guyana in 1997, gets going, the fans could be in for a sumptuous diet of explosive power hitting. Along with Sarjoo, Nandy Park expect useful contributions from their youthful Skipper, Mark Robe, the talented Neil Richardson, former Guyana Under-19 leg-spinner Lookeshwar Mahabeer, Mohanchand Persaud and wicketkeeper Feroze Williams.
Apart from the lively Benjamin-Gray, Daniel Sarjoo, Ronald Jaisingh, the experienced Rakesh Gangaram, Jermaine Griffith and Owen Granum are all capable of match winning performances at this level.
