The time has come for child victims to be heard before it’s too late

A 17-year old girl has apparently been charged for murder. This is not the first, and sad to say, may very well not be the last of such an occurrence.
Many of our youths are suffering various forms of abuse at the hands of adults, these include: physical, psychological, financial and sexual abuse.
The perpetrators are themselves unlearnt, misguided, mal-adjusted adults who are in need of drastic intervention. In many instances only draconian measures may be able to rope them (adults) in, being set in their negative behaviours and attitudes.
As humans inhabiting this planet, we have discovered new ways of dealing with children. However, some older adults across a wide spectrum of our society have not learnt one positive technique.
This brings me to the next point. There seem to be persons who can speak for the adults when bad things take place. However, no one is seen before the cameras representing the youths who may have been victims of chronic abuse.
On the other hand, children seeking intervention have had to speak to adults holding responsible positions in agencies mandated to support positive changes in society. Sad to say there have been too many instances when these child victims have not been able to receive the necessary help/assistance from the very first moment.
There still seems to be too much red tape in the various agencies, thus contributing to continual pain and suffering of the ‘small voices’; this must change.
The dilemma today is that many persons are biological parents, but do not posses knowledge of the basic stages of life and development.
I recommend to all parents and potential parents ‘Erickson’s Stages of Life’ for a start then childhood development. The time has come for us as a nation to listen to the cries of the nation’s children, ‘leaders of tomorrow’ and youths, ‘leaders of today’. I am hoping that the relevant persons and agencies would come forward to stand by this 17-year-old to ensure that justice is truly served.
