$30M for infrastructural work at Linden Hospital
The Ministry of Health has received some $30 million to commence infrastructural work at the Linden Hospital.
Minister of Health, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy said that the money was approved since December of last year, but it is now being released from this year’s budget.
According to Minister Ramsammy, extra money was added so as to enhance the hospital environment.
Some of the money will be spent to construct the road leading to the hospital and for landscaping.
Construction of the new facility is part of a wider national health sector reform programme.
The $1.6 billion project will include the replacing of the old Mackenzie Hospital, which has been in existence for several decades.
It was explained that the growing population and the complex health requirements of the region have outgrown the capacity of the facility.
The Linden Hospital will have an operating theatre, intensive care unit, paediatric services, laboratory, blood bank, gynaecology ward and obstetrics department among others.
Minister Ramsammy had previously indicated that the new Linden Hospital will deliver a more efficient service to the people, as medical services would be delivered at the new structure, while the existing building would be preserved to facilitate the delivery of administrative services, until funding could be secured to build a new administrative building in the same complex with the new hospital.
