Goldsmith robbed of $7M in jewellery
Police on the Essequibo Coast are investigating a robbery committed on a goldsmith of Golden Fleece, Essequibo Coast.
Reports are that some time around 20:00 hours on Thursday, someone broke into the home of Suresh Khemchand while he was at a relative at Zorg.
This newspaper was told that the goldsmith, after finishing his day’s work, secured his premises at 4-15 Golden Fleece and left for Zorg, which is a few villages away to collect his wife who was at a relative’s home.
When he returned home around 21:00 hours, he noticed his backdoor wide open.
Upon checking he discovered that the lock on the door was broken.
This newspaper was told that the businessman immediately informed the police.
Further checks by the businessman and his wife in the home revealed that all of the man’s gold jewellery and $40,000 in cash were missing.
