Relatives of D’Urban Backlands murder victim, George Cadogan, have taken his body back to the United Kingdom, amidst reports that British officials are conducting their own investigation into his death.
Kaieteur News understands that, following a funeral service here, the 77-year-old man’s widow and children took his remains back to the UK on Saturday.
However, whether he will be buried in his adopted homeland remains unclear, since a source told this newspaper that Cadogan had always indicated that he wanted to be interred in Guyana.
A family member told Kaieteur News that British officials want to conduct their own autopsy, but the relative was unable to say why this request was reportedly made.
Cadogan’s close family members have avoided the local media, and have even declined to have his photograph published.
Cadogan, a retired solicitor who had migrated to the UK but recently returned to Guyana, was found bound, gagged and strangled in his D’Urban Backlands home last February.
The two-storey house was ransacked and a laptop computer and two cell phones were missing.
The victim was the only occupant of the home.
Detectives believe that the killers gained entry to the home via a window that was recently broken and covered with plywood.
Police had detained two carpenters who had been renovating the premises, as well as a cook who worked at the house.
They were subsequently released and no one else was held.
