Patients visiting the Leonora Diagnostic Center, West Coast Demerara, and who are in need of anesthetic have all been referred to the West Demerara Hospital (Best Hospital). There is no anesthetic at Leonora and this has been the case for the past three days.
Kaieteur News understands that a huge number of patients had to be referred to the Best Hospital, as a result of the problem.
This newspaper was unable to ascertain exactly why the hospital has been without anesthetic for the past three days, but it was explained that an order was put through to the Ministry of Health.
It was also explained that the West Demerara Regional Hospital has had to take on the additional burden of more patients visiting the facility, more so when the hospital is facing difficulties as it relates to the number of doctors and nurses present at the facility.
This has also resulted in patients waiting for long hours before seeing a doctor.
Efforts made by this newspaper to contact the Health Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy for a comment on this matter proved futile.
