Bascom Lalbachan 44, of 21 Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, was yesterday granted $190,000 bail when he made his court appearance before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on November 27 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport with the intent to defraud, he uttered a forged Guyana passport with a US visa in favour of himself, purporting to show that it was genuine.
He is also charged with conspiring with persons unknown to commit a felony.
That charge stated that between October 1 and November 22 at Station Street, Kitty, he conspired with persons unknown to commit a felony that is to say he “he inserted a US visa into a Guyanese passport in favour of himself, knowing that is was false.” He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
His attorney, during bail application, told the court that this is his client’s first offense and posited that bail should be granted in a reasonable sum.
The accused is expected to make his next court appearance on January 20, 2009.
