The Parrot’s last squawk alluded to the effects of acts of terrorism in the wake of the recent attacks in Mumbai. Similar effects locally were also noted with emphasis on the alleged tacit support some terrorists here receive from elements within the opposition. This alleged “relation” has been written about by many to the point where some are convinced of the existence of some form of “convenient symbioticness”. The legal ramifications which hover overhead provide “cover” to the “beneficiaries” and prohibit pronouncements for public consumption. However, “consolation” is found in the colloquial proverb, “moon ah run till day catch am”.
The many moons that “peeped over” the “rainbow shawls” of the “beneficiaries” alluded to, can draw a parallel to the many lives of a cat; they have nine; the others are still counting.
Among what is being counted is “The Blackie Saga”. This, and I hate to repeat, exemplifies the “support” many would allude to. Of course our history prior to “Blackie” points to other instances post-“Blackie”, which saw prison escapees being deemed as “Freedom Fighters” and the Gibson reverence, among others.
The “Freedom Fighters” are now history thanks to law enforcement. Gibson was previously in custody for various reasons; he was vehemently defended not only by his lawyers, but by Palm Tree officials and “key” members of this party’s splinter group.
Television newscasts and newspapers loyal to the “cause” splashed daily diatribes to vilify the authorities for arresting Gibson and others. They skillfully tried to portray law enforcement as pandering to the administration and deemed the charges as being “trumped up” on their “revered comrades”. They questioned the intelligence used in gathering the information that led to the arrests. They even condemned the arrests as the suppression of freedom of expression. They never wanted to accept that law enforcement was on to something. Events over the last few days can be seen as a vindication of law enforcement arresting such individuals. Gibson was officially found to be a pirate. He and two others were recently killed following a shootout with law enforcement.
When one looks back at the horrific ordeals that hard-working fisher folk endured, with some being killed at the hands of merciless pirates, how can the defenders of these men have the “gall” to sit at weekly press conferences in the confines of their opposition headquarters and vilify this administration? How can they continue to claim that they are championing the cause of the poor and ordinary man? Should I believe that, in their eyes, the poor and ordinary man is a bandit or a pirate?
The Parrot must ask the defenders, you’all ain’t got shame? How you feel now that the criminals turned out to be people whose cause you championed?
Knowing the defenders, a suitable “spin” would be forthcoming, as usual. According to old people, the spin would aptly be described as being “bare-faced”; some say “bold-faced”. Whatever the description, how can they comfortably face the public? But then again, according to the same old people, the defenders can be described as being “two-faced”. Their moons have run out of “road”.
