West Indies player Leon Johnson stroked an accomplished 43 while pacer Chindanand Shivram took 4-40 to help GCC beat New Aqua Line Farm, while West Indies selector Clyde Butts took 4-23 to lead GNIC to victory against Mavericks in the two Demerara’ zone National Gafoor’s 20/20 cricket matches played in West Demerara on Friday.
Robin Bacchus (35) and Ravi Sarwan (27) supported Johnson as GCC made 136-3 off their allotted 20 overs before restricting the host to 108-9 as Shivram picked up wickets at important stages.
And in the other game played in West Demerara, the 51-year-old Butts got support from first class pacer Rayon Griffith (2-7) and Elton Baker (2-19) as Mavericks fell for 100 in 18 overs despite 37 from N. Balgobin.
Former Guyana youth player Ejaz Mohamed then made 30 and got support from Griffith who finished unbeaten on 17 as GNIC reached 104-6 in 17.2 overs.
