Edwards (60), Ramdeen (50) power Young Warriors to 86-run win
Chattergoon lead Albion off field after controversial catch by Foo
The Berbice Zone of the inaugural 2008 Gafoor’s first division national 20/20 Cricket Competition begun last Friday with five batsmen registering first round half-centuries.
At Cumberland, former West Indies opener Richard Ramdeen smashed six fours and two sixes in his 60 and along with a solid 50 with six fours and three sixes from Wahied Edwards added 98 in 12 overs to take Young Warriors from 6-1 to 188-6 off their allotted overs against Police who were routed for 102 in reply.
Bermine Captain Devon Clements (66*) and Maxi DeJong (57) spearheaded Bermine to victory against Rose Hall Canjie while Berbice under-19 all-rounder Alex Amsterdam slammed 57 in a losing effort for Scotsburg United against Port Mourant as he registered the fifth fifty in the round.
And in Saturday’s match between Albion Community Centre (ACC) and Skeldon Community Centre (SCC), Albion, led by their captain and West Indies Test opener Sewnarine Chattergoon, walked off the field with Skeldon requiring 13 from 11 balls to win.
The walk-off came after a six was signaled by the umpire when national under-19 player Jonathan Foo claimed a catch which the Umpires felt was completed beyond the boundary line. The matter is to be dealt with by the Competitions Committee of the Berbice Cricket Board of Control later this week.
