DEAR EDITOR,
As a Private Sector person, I am disappointed to see in the Stabroek Business News dated Friday September 26, 2008 the President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Chandradat Chintamani calling on the Government to provide more education to the business community on the Economic Partnership Agreement [EPA].
For too long the private sector has been relying on the government to be spoon fed on these key issues. This has caused the private sector to develop a dependency syndrome over the years and has even caused some of the organizations such as the Chamber to be reactive rather than proactive.
I wish to implore upon Mr. Chintamani to show better leadership to the members of the Chamber, by educating members on these important international trade agreements. Why doesn’t the Chamber hold a symposium on the EPA for its members?
We in the private sector must lead by example and educate ourselves on these issues in order to make meaningful contributions for the growth and development of Guyana. Mr. John Richards
