DEAR EDITOR,
It is said that wherever there is a great man there is a great woman behind such a man.
Dr. Cheddi Jagan was one of the greatest politicians, the greatest dreamer, the greatest visionary and the greatest thinker Guyana and the Caribbean and Latin America had ever produced.
Mrs. Janet Jagan stood as a tower of strength supporting Dr. Cheddi Jagan side by side and shoulder to shoulder to the wheels of struggle for the cause and interest of the working class, farmers, progressive business community, the progressive intelligence and all of progressive Guyana.
Dr. Cheddi Jagan and Mrs. Janet Jagan took great care and pains taking efforts to form the P.A.C. and then the PPP, and it took them a lifetime of hard and difficult struggle to make the PPP what it is today.
If Dr. Cheddi Jagan is considered to be the father of the PPP and Guyana, then Mrs. Janet Jagan without any doubt is the mother of the PPP and the Guyanese nation.
Mr. Editor, please permit me to pay my highest gratitude, thanks and tribute to Mrs. Janet Jagan for her sterling contribution to the struggle for Guyana’s Independence and development. I call on all progressive-minded Guyanese at home and in the Diaspora to do the same.
Moses Nagamootoo and others have contributed to the development of the PPP and Guyana immensely. The 29th Congress of the PPP, held on August 2nd and 3rd at Diamond on the East Bank of Demerara alluded to this fact. The Guyanese people love Moses. Dr. Cheddi Jagan loved Moses for what he is: clean, truthful, merciful, charitable, bold, and frank.
This is why Dr. Cheddi Jagan used to walk with Moses Nagamootoo east, west, north and south within the boundaries of Guyana on the trail of his political companies; this is why the people of Guyana at home and in the Diaspora see Moses Nagamootoo as the number one Jagan knight.
In the name of democracy, the general council elected at the 29th Congress of the PPP ganged up against Moses and did not elect him to the executive council, flouting the will and mandate of the delegates who represented the membership of the PPP at that Congress, like the Joseph of the Holy Bible, whose brothers envied and hated him, and cast him into a well and then finally sold him off to get rid of him.
Moses Nagamootoo once resigned from the PPP after a powerful campaign was launched against him to destroy his image and personality and not with standing all of that, Moses was able to come in at 5th position in the general council elections at the Congress of the PPP.
I know and the whole of Guyana knows that the present General Council of the PPP will not propose the name of Moses as a presidential candidate to vie for the presidency in 2011. The only hope we have is the Mother that rock the cradle of the PPP.
Dear Mother, please persuade the PPP to let the groups nominate the presidential candidate and a special conference elect same.
