DCC take unassailable 2-nil in three match U-19 cricket series
DCC defeated Bartica by 16 runs at the DCC ground yesterday to take an unassailable 2-nill lead in their three-match Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport HIV/AIDS awareness under-19 cricket series.
In a game reduced to 20 overs due to a late start caused by rain, the host reached 141-8 after they were asked to bat first and then dismissed Bartica for 125 in the final over as Matthew Marques captured his second consecutive Man-of-the-Match award.
The two sides are scheduled to cash today from 11:00hrs in the final game and Bartica will be hunting a consolatory victory.
Shawn Singh top-scored with 46 decorated with four fours while Marques, who recently played in the Sir Garfield Sobers International schools tournament in Barbados, smashed two sixes and two fours in 26.
Jamal Dillon contributed 22 as Essequibo under-19 left-arm spinner Andrew Wong grabbed 2-21 and Munish Richards took 2-19.
Kenzo Baksh made 22, Richard Tulsie hit two sixes in a cameo 18 and Andrew Persaud scored 17 in a losing effort as Marques grabbed 4-18 from his four overs and got support from national under-19 opening batsman Trevon Griffith who captured 2-27.
After today’s final game their will be a presentation ceremony at which representatives from the Sports Ministry and DCC officials are expected to be present.
