The matter concerning the suspension of popular TV host CN Sharma’s broadcast licence came up in the High Court again yesterday before Justice William Ramlal.
Sharma’s lawyer, Khemraj Ramjattan, applied for leave for an amendment to the motion to include damages as a claim.
Attorney General, Doodnauth Singh, objected to this, stating that there should be no amendment because of prejudice.
Ramjattan then said that there is no prejudice and it was merely a mistake on the part of the defence not to include damages on the motion paper. The damages claim, Ramjattan said, is in the affidavit but not on the motion paper.
The judge is to make a ruling on July 30 when the case is scheduled to continue.
On April 11, Sharma’s licence was suspended for four months on a decision by President Bharrat Jagdeo, stemming from alleged infringements on air during Sharma’s Voice of the People programme.
His lawyers subsequently moved to High Court by way of a constitutional motion asking for the closure to be suspended.
