RHTY&SC/Sprite cricket academy to bowl off Monday

– over 100 youngsters to benefit

The 11th annual cricket academy organised by the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) and sponsored by Banks DIH under the Sprite Beverage brand is set to bowl off on Monday at the Area ‘H’ ground, Rose Hall Corentyne.

Over 100 cricketers between the ages of 8 – 16 are expected to be part of this annual feature which has as its head coach, Stanford 20/20 coach Renwick Batson, who will be assisted by Delbert Hicks and Ravi Narine. Based on the work programme, all areas of the game (batting, fielding and bowling) will be dealt with including the structure of cricket in the Caribbean.

Sessions on pertinent social issues affecting young people has also been factored into the work programme and among the topics are HIV/Aids, Drug Abuse, Teenage Sex, Importance of Discipline, Importance of Education, Peer Pressure, Personal Hygiene and Personal Manners.

RHTY&SC’s CEO and Club Secretary Hilbert Foster noted that the club’s aim in hosting this annual academy is to produce rounded cricketers at the junior level and to ensure that the players become positive role models for their peers apart from being sports ambassadors for the club, Berbice and ultimately, Guyana.

Meanwhile, all cricket clubs in the Ancient County are encouraged to send at least 3 members to the academy.
