The joint Parliamentary Opposition parties have handed over a petition to the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting in Antigua as they seek to gain maximum support for what they see as burning issues in Guyana.
Taking the petition to Antigua was General Secretary of the People’s National Congress Reform, Oscar Clarke. In an interview after he had handed over the petition, Mr Clarke said that there were attempts to block the handing over of the petition.
He said that he never expected to be admitted to the meeting, since neither he nor the people he represented were invited guests to the forum.
The petition lists among the grievances faced by the opposition in Guyana high prices for food and fuel, and unconscionable hardships created by the Value Added and Excise taxes.
