Despite the inclement weather the Berbice Cricket Board is continuing with its quest to complete all unfinished competitions and as a consequence the board is pushing ahead with the Republic Bank Right Start 40-over U-15 cricket competition, which has reach the inter-Zone and Branch stages in some areas.
Play in the inter-Branch leg of the Corentyne district has commenced with Lower Corentyne defeating their Upper Corentyne counterparts by 59 runs.
In the game that was played at the Scotsburg ground on the Upper Corentyne, Lower Corentyne batted first and made 168 in 39.4 overs with Guyana U-15 all rounder Sharmendra Hardyal top scoring with 45, support came from Neron Williams 25 and Sasenarine Ernest 21.
Lower Corentyne were earlier in trouble at 65-5, but were rescued through a match saving 55-run 6th wicket partnership between Hardyal and Williams that took the score to 120-7 and their eventual score. Bowling for Upper Corentyne off spinner Delvin Maynard picked up 2-12.
In their turn at the crease, Upper Corentyne had a decent start of 30, and were 55-1, but after that their batsmen had no answer to the spin combination of Guyana left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie Kanhai 3-13 and Berbice leg spinner Shawn Perreira 2-38 and were bundled out for 109 in 31 overs. The competition is continuing.
